What a wonderful day this was! It just went too dang fast. Planning a wedding abroad definitely wasn’t easy but with the help of our sweet families, I’d say it was a success!
We arrived in Georgia on April 30th, 10 days before the wedding. In my head, this sounded like plenty of time. But whew, what a whirlwind of DIY’ing, planning, shopping & visiting friends. And to think that at some point I considered flying in ONE day before the wedding. Ha. Momentary delirium.
Our wedding was held at the Château Élan Legends Clubhouse. It was a beautiful, sunny day which was perfect for the outdoor reception I had been envisioning. It did get a little toasty in the beginning but by the time the sun began to go down, it was perfect. It was an intimate wedding with only 35 guests and we all dined at one long estate table. Much of our decor like the gold candlesticks, antique glasses, tables and trunks was all borrowed and we DIY’d a couple things as well.
Our first DIY projects were these little guys.
We bought 35 animal figurines from Michael’s, spray painted them gold and my dad put a dremel to their back for the place card slit. Sorry cute lil’ animals…
I designed our invitations as well as our menus and any other signage we needed.
I found my little slippers on Etsy here! The shop is called BaliELF and all of their items are handmade out of their shop in India. Let me just say there were SO comfortable.
The flowers were everything I had hoped they would be. Bright and whimsical while still elegant. The Flower Post in Buford did an amazing job and I would highly recommend them!
In the picture above, I’m wearing the same gloves my mom wore on her wedding day. 🙂
Love this man more than he’ll ever know.
‘Cause every girl crazy ’bout a sharp dressed man!
Our “first look”. 🙂
My sister and Maid of Honor.
Are these flower girls not the prettiest thing you’ve ever seen!?
A birdcage borrowed from my best friend’s mom, an antique dresser borrowed from my grandfather and my grandmother’s favorite lace table cloth completed our guest table. We bought the globe and frame at Michael’s and I designed the sign.
Our “loved ones” table was created by two borrowed antique trunks, another lace tablecloth and framed photos of those we wished could’ve been in attendance. The Eric Church song “Those I’ve loved” has always meant a lot to me and I was glad to be able to incorporate it. The sign reads “We wouldn’t be who we are today, if not for those we’ve loved along the way.”
We purchased our birch arbor on Etsy, and my dad assembled it. Our 2 Moroccan rugs were picked up on our previous trip to Marrakech and the vintage green table was another piece from my grandfather’s fabulous collection.
Rather than a unity candle, we decided to do a “love time capsule” in our ceremony. We placed 3 bottles of wine in the box (to be opened on our 10, 15 & 20 year anniversaries) and included a love letter to open as well.
What a little stud!
Our estate table was everything I wanted it to be. Kelley’s parents had the wooden chargers made by a family friend and the antique glasses and candlesticks were were all borrowed by family and friends as well.
My brother and I spent several hours cutting out the kraft paper table runner. Originally, we intended to cut this pattern for the entire length of the 32′ table but we quickly realized that was a bit ambitious so we decided to just do 4′ on both ends.
If only we could’ve eaten more of this delicious cake! I was worried about the cake melting but despite the nearly 90 degree heat, it held up just fine.
My dad also set up our magical cafe lights. Since there was nothing to fix the lights to, he made poles using wooden 2×2’s placed in half-barrels. Aren’t they beautiful?
We thought the perfect gift for our guests would be Swiss chocolate! We filled an entire carry-on bag with 100 bars (over 40 pounds worth!) of chocolate. The security guards definitely gave us a peculiar look when they saw it going through the scanner!
